TRACO Electronic AG, also known as TRACO, has built a reputation as a leading power supply specialist. Over more than 35 years in business, the company has become known for its high-quality DC/DC and AC/DC power conversion products, as well as other electronic equipment, manufacturing and distributing power supply products from their headquarters in Switzerland across Europe to its legion of customers and distributors.
In recent years, the company has also become known for cutting-edge innovation and design. The company supplies laser and robotic surgery tools to hospitals and medical offices around Europe, and has produced and promoted new and innovative ideas such as the SpaceX Hyperloop Pod.
While the company had built a solid reputation and business, the company knew it would need to upgrade its omnichannel offerings to compete in the digital age. That meant improving its slow and manual product information enrichment processes and solutions. But the company did not want to spend a large number of resources on their product information efforts. So, in order to take control of their product data and digital assets without breaking the bank, the company looked for a cost-effective product information management solution and opted for Akeneo’s freeof-charge Community Edition PIM.

Eventually, however, TRACO Electronic realized that it would need a more powerful tool for managing product information and digital assets. So, the company decided to upgrade to Akeneo PIM Enterprise Edition to take advantage of features designed to improve their product data, accelerate time-to-market, and improve relationships with external partners.

After deciding to make the switch to Enterprise Edition, the company got to work implementing the upgraded solution.
All told, the implementation process took only a few weeks and was helped along by the fact that TRACO already had experience with the Community Edition, according to Timon Burkard, Documentation Engineer at TRACO.
Training employees to use the PIM was also a very simple process. Most team members were able to be quickly trained to use Enterprise Edition, thanks to their experience with Akeneo Community Edition. According to Burkard, once the team was up and running on PIM, they quickly realized the added value of several Enterprise Edition features. This included data sharing capabilities, the Asset Manager, and other tools.

Advantages through the asset manager
Thanks to the Asset Manager, documents and images can now be assigned to a single attribute, which is often the case with security certificates, for example. This also reduces maintenance effort and errors, as the certificates are now managed and updated centrally in the Asset Manager.
Consistent data thanks to the Enterprise Edition rules engine
As of today, 20 attributes at TRACO in the Enterprise Edition are automatically filled with the help of the rules engine. Most of these attributes were previously maintained manually. The rules engine thus reduces the effort involved in data maintenance and increases the consistency of the data.
SLA-backed support
With help from Akeneo’s support team, TRACO can now submit tickets for problems or feature requests at any time. Thanks to them and their cooperation with TRACO, the team is able to quickly get answers to its questions and receive explanations and demos of new features or benefits.
