The Challenge: Struggling to Scale a Large Product Catalog Amid Errors and Inefficiencies

Managing Ploonk’s 70,000+ product catalog across multiple channels and languages was a significant challenge. 

With an average of 200 new products added weekly, ensuring accurate and consistent product data across platforms was time-consuming and prone to errors, often leading to delays, inconsistencies, and inefficiencies in product listings.

Title management was especially complex, as product titles had to be manually updated using an export/import process. When a new mobile device became compatible with existing products, all related product titles required updates, creating a tedious and error-prone workflow.

Product attribute inconsistencies further complicated operations, especially for accessories compatible with multiple devices. Variations in formatting, such as ‘iphone12, iphone12pro’ vs. ‘iphone12pro, iphone12’, caused mismatches and linking issues on marketplaces.

The mapping process became exponentially complex as more compatible devices were introduced. Each variation required separate mapping per marketplace, leading to long lists, duplicate efforts, and significant manual work.

Without a centralized and automated solution, Ploonk struggled to scale efficiently, maintain data accuracy, and ensure a smooth marketplace integration. Addressing these issues was critical to reducing errors, enhancing productivity, and accelerating time-to-market.

 

The Solution: Automating Product Management and Enhancing Data Accuracy with Akeneo

Ploonk selected Akeneo PIM to manage its 70,000+ product catalog across multiple channels and languages, addressing key challenges in automation, scalability, and data consistency. 

Akeneo’s powerful rule engine allowed for automated updates and attribute management, reducing reliance on manual processes. Additionally, multichannel management and API integration ensured seamless data transfers between their PIM system and various sales and marketing platforms, keeping information accurate and consistent.

With Akeneo’s rule engine, Ploonk fully automated product title generation and attribute updates, eliminating manual errors and inefficiencies. Over 1,000 AI-generated rules now automatically fill product attributes based on model codes, ensuring consistent compatibility data across marketplaces. 

The results? Shortened time-to-market by at least one day and reduced manual data entry by 0.3 FTE, enabling Ploonk to respond quickly to market trends, launch new products faster, and focus on strategic initiatives rather than routine updates.

Data accuracy improvements also led to a measurable decrease in return rates as customers received reliable, correctly labeled products, enhancing satisfaction and confidence in Ploonk’s brand
